Summer Festival Diaries 2009

Day 2 - The Spiritual Guide

A Spiritual Guide can be eastern, western, male, female, ordained or lay. Our spiritual teacher who leads us to correct spiritual paths is our Spiritual Guide. To understand who our Spiritual Guide is we need to understand what is the correct spiritual path. A spiritual practice which leads us to the state of pure happiness is a correct spiritual path, such as the practice of renunciation, the supreme good heart – bodhichitta, and the correct view – emptiness. These are correct spiritual paths because these practices give us the ability to control our delusions – our anger, attachment and self-grasping – so we will experience pure happiness.

Guided Meditations

On the second morning of the 2009 Summer Festival, Gen Kelsang Ananda - NKT National Spiritual Director in Germany - guided meditations on how we can repay the kindness of our Spiritual Guide by flourishing Kadam Dharma. Gen Ananda encouraged us to engage in a pure and sincere Dharma practice to make ourselves and others happy.

Dorje Shugden Empowerment

Today Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso granted the special Blessing Empowerment of our Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden.

If we practise continually and sincerely, Dorje Shugden has the power to pacify obstacles, gather necessary conditions and to protect us on our spiritual path. Giving advice from his heart Geshe-la said that 'With effort we can accomplish anything'.

Quote of the day

Normally we destroy our own happiness by developing anger and other delusions – this is our normal situation. We should change this through the practise of Dharma. This is important advice from my heart.

What is an Empowerment?

An empowerment is the opportunity to receive the special blessings of a Buddha. With these blessings we can continually improve our spiritual practise until finally we accomplish the ultimate meaning of human life, full enlightenment.
