Empowerment of Thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara
Saturday July 26
You whose thousand arms are the thousand chakravatin kings
Whose thousand eyes are the thousand Buddhas of this Fortunate Aeon,
Who guide all living beings according to their needs;
Generating and maintaining compassion is the most important Buddhist practice.
Compassion is our Buddha nature, but at present it is weak and limited, like a small seed. Nourishing and developing this seed through training in the methods for developing compassion depends upon receiving the blessings of Avalokiteshvara.
Gradually we will accomplish universal compassion – a compassion for all living beings that is rooted in unconditional love – and eventually the compassion of an enlightened being, which has the power directly to benefit all living beings and liberate them from suffering.
Receiving this empowerment is a special method to make a strong connection with this holy being and to receive his blessings.
