Children & young adults at the festival
Children and young adults are welcome to attend the Festival, however for their safety and wellbeing some special conditions apply.
Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by 2 nominated responsible adult carers over the age of 18. Those who are aged 16 and 17 year must be accompanied by an adult over 18. You will be asked to provide the names of the carers/accompanying adult at the point of booking, and will be unable to complete the booking without it.
Festivals are large-scale public events and the care and safety of children and young adults remains at all times the responsibility of their parents/nominated carers/accompanying adult. NKT-IKBU, KMC New York, and the Festival Organisers for insurance purposes cannot take responsibility for children and young adults.
IKRC Grand Canyon property borders the Kaibab National Forest whose 1.6 million acres extend to the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon. It is very easy to get lost on unmarked trails surrounding the IKRC. Additionally, the forest is home to many species of wild animals who although will naturally shun human contact, should not be approached within their own habitat. All festival attendees are advised to be cautious if entering the forest, but in particular parents/carers must ensure that children and young adults do not wander into the forest.
There will be large numbers of buses and cars accessing the property daily, and the property itself borders Interstate 40. Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring their children stay away from all traffic areas.
Festival Fees & Accommodation
Discounts apply to under 16's bookings. Those aged 16 and over are charged as adults. Please see Fall Festival Fees for details.
Under 16s cannot be accommodated in shared accommodation with adults other than their parents/legal guardians, named nominated carer, or family members. Under 16s who are camping, must sleep in the same tent as their parent/legal guardian, nominated carer or an adult family member. Under 16s who are sharing a tent are free of charge.
16 & 17 year olds cannot be accommodated in shared accommodation, unless accompanied by a parent/legal guardian or adult family member. Camping in own tent is permitted.
All under 18s are required to wear wristbands.
To help ensure the safety of your child, and so that they can be easily reunited with their carers in case of difficulties arising, under 16's passes will also display photographs and names of their two nominated responsible adult carers. Under 16s bookings can only be confirmed when photographs have been received. Because these passes are prepared in advance, you must provide these prior to your arrival. Parents/nominated carers will be identified as such on their own festival pass.
We regret that children under 3 are not allowed in the Temple or Marquee extensions during empowerments, teachings and meditation sessions. Any children who do attend teachings are not permitted to play electronic games. Children of all ages are welcome to attend puja.
During empowerments, teachings and meditation sessions, we provide a video link in a comfortable quiet area reserved for carers with children.
Parents are reminded that under 16s must be under adult supervision at all times.
