In Modern Buddhism, Geshe Kelsang says, ‘Practising Sutra teachings is the basic foundation for practising Tantric teachings, and the practice of Tantra is the quick method to fulfil the ultimate goal of Sutra teachings.’ The 2013 Summer Festival will provide an opportunity to receive and practise teachings on both Sutra and Tantra.
Week 1 Part One – Kadam Lamrim, the Foundation with Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong
The essential practices of Kadam Lamrim with special emphasis on developing the compassionate mind of bodhichitta -
the spontaneous wish to achieve the ultimate goal of enlightenment for the sake of all living beings.
Week 2 Part Two – Highest Yoga Tantra, the Quick Path with Gen-la Kelsang Kunsang
Empowerments and commentary to the Highest Yoga Tantra practices of Heruka Body Mandala and Vajrayogini, the special, blessed quick path to enlightenment of the New Kadampa Tradition.
As Geshe Kelsang says, ‘The universal compassion accomplished through the practice of Sutra teachings and the wisdom of Mahamudra Tantra accomplished through the practice of Tantric teachings are like the two wings of a bird. Just as both wings are equally important for a bird to fly, so both Sutra and Tantra are equally important for practitioners seeking enlightenment.’
