Only a Buddha’s compassion possesses the power actually to protect all living beings from suffering.

Day 5

Taking the teachings to heart

Every Kadampa Festival begins with teachings, empowerments and meditations and finishes with a short retreat to give participants an opportunity to take the teachings to heart and go away with something stable and enduring - insights, vision, and positive intentions to guide them in their daily life after the Festival.

The 2013 Spring Festival finishes with a brief retreat led by Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab, the Resident Teacher at KMC Singapore.

In each session Gen-la gives a brief introduction to the object of meditation for that session and then the Temple falls silent as hundreds of people contemplate how they might improve their mind of compassion and meditate on a determination to try to benefit others each and every day.

Meditation provides a precious opportunity to develop such insights and intentions and focus on them single-pointedly so that they gradually become a natural part of the way we think, speak, and act.

And having the chance to take part in a structured series of meditation sessions in retreat with hundreds of like minded people is one more thing that makes this Festival a really special experience.
