The International Summer Festival was founded at Manjushri KMC by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche in 1982.

Venerable Geshe-la is a fully accomplished meditation master who holds the very essence of Buddha’s teachings in his heart. Pioneering the introduction of modern Buddhism into contemporary society, he has presented the paths of wisdom
and compassion in practical ways that everyone can use to solve their daily problems, improve their personal relationships, and eventually attain a deep and lasting happiness and inner peace.

Dedicating his life to creating the foundation for modern Kadampa Buddhism to flourish in this and future lives, through his teachings and writings, establishing centres worldwide, training qualified teachers and designing study programmes, Venerable Geshe-la has kept alive the pure Dharma that comes from the hearts of Buddha Shakyamuni, Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa, making it fresh and accessible to the people of this modern world.

Because of his extraordinary vision and kindness the methods for accomplishing inner peace are now available to everyone. This humble monk has touched the hearts of countless people and inspired them to set out on a blissful journey to lasting happiness.
